Being an Ambassador for Christ
Every Christian holds a diplomatic title most never think about — ambassador for Christ. Here's what that calling actually requires in how we live, work, and treat the people around us.
“So we have been sent to speak for Christ. It is as if God is calling to you through us. We speak for Christ when we beg you to be at peace with God.”— 2 Corinthians 5:20
Being an ambassador for Christ is a spiritual calling and an identity of Christians as official representatives of God living in the world. Christians are called to officially represent Jesus Christ and His heavenly kingdom in their daily lives. Like ambassadors who represent their homeland in the foreign country they are in, Christians are called to live as citizens of heaven while in this world. It is done by how we live our lives, how we act and how we treat others.
It is an honor to be an ambassador for Christ, and we should be proud of it since Christians are chosen by God to serve Him. Christians are chosen by God to be His people. Look at Ephesians 1:4, which states, “in Christ, He chose us before the world was made so that we would be His holy people.”
It will not be easy to be an ambassador for Christ since Christians have to live in a world full of people who are against Christ. They are people who are God’s enemies, those who oppose His teachings, who want to conform to the world or love the things of the world more than God. They are considered His enemies.
If Christians love the things of the world more than God sometimes, it can cause them to turn from Him (James 4:4). A well-known example of this was Judas, one of Jesus’ disciples who loved money more than Him. It seemed easy for him to turn from God. Paul even had people who were with him as ambassadors for Christ who left him. In 2 Timothy 4:10-11, Paul mentions the ones who did:
“Because Demas, who loved this world, left me and went to Thessalonica. Crescens went to Galatia, and Titus went to Dalmatia. Luke is the only one still with me. Get Mark and bring him with you when you come, because he can help me in my work here.”
As ambassadors for Christ, it is their job to share the gospel so that others can be reconciled to God. It involves communicating God's love, grace, and offer of forgiveness. Being an ambassador is not a temporary or partial job. It means with God’s help ambassadors are to show Christ-like character, integrity, and love in every aspect of their life—whether at work, in neighborhoods, or within families.
Prayer of the day:
Dear heavenly Father,
Thank you for choosing us to be Your people. You are a great God that we serve. Please help us to serve you the way You want. Let us be an example for our Savior, Jesus Christ. He is our King that we want to serve and be an ambassador for. You use us to show others about Jesus and of Your love, grace, and forgiveness.
In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!
