No One Can Understand God

No One Can Understand God
“The Lord says, ‘My thoughts are not like your thoughts. Your ways are not like my ways. Just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.’” – Isaiah 55:8-9

We would like to believe that we can understand God. He seems pretty straight forward as He plainly states what He excepts from us, how we should live and if we do sin, how to seek His forgiveness and change. When we go through tough times in life, it can cause us to question His goodness and ask Him “why is this happening to me?” Sometimes, we think we have God all figured out. He must be allowing this to happen to me because ________ - you can fill in the blank. If we try to explain or know why God allows certain things to happen in our lives, we can mislead ourselves or someone else to believe something about God that is not true.

Job’s friends believed they knew why Job was experiencing hardships and had God all figured out. They did not give Job the right advice about his troubles and did not know the real reason why God allowed Satan to do what he did to Job. God clearly condemned their advice. He was angry with Eliphaz and the other two friends, Bildad and Zophar because they did not speak the truth about Him (Job 42:7). It can happen to us if we are not careful, and we can impact their relationship with others and with God.

No one knows for sure why God does what He does or why He allows things to happen. He proclaims that His thoughts and ways are not like ours. His ways are higher, meaning our minds can never comprehend His reasons behind things even if He did explain it to us. That is why having faith and trust in God is the key to salvation and direction in our lives. We really do not have total control of our lives, but it is a good thing since God is and will work for the good of those who love Him and acknowledge Him in everything they do (Romans 8:28, Proverbs 3:5-6).

Prayer of the day:

Dear heavenly Father,

No one understands Your ways since they are higher than ours. In life, we need some kind of understanding in our troubles and pain. You do not always give an answer to our problems but want us to lean on You for hope even though our minds cannot understand why things happen. Please help us to turn to You for comfort and help us to find joy in our circumstances. Thank you for Your everlasting love, grace and mercy. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!
