Jesus Christ is the Cornerstone

Jesus Christ is the Cornerstone
“Now you who are not Jewish are not foreigners or strangers any longer but are citizens together with God’s holy people. You belong to God’s family. You are like a building that was built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets. Christ Jesus himself is the most important stone in that building, and that whole building is joined together in Christ. He makes it grow and become a holy temple in the Lord. And in Christ you, too, are being built together with the Jews into a place where God lives through the Spirit.” – Ephesians 2:19-22

In Ephesians 2:19-22, Paul is addressing the new believing Gentiles. They are no longer foreigners or strangers but fellow citizens along with the other saints of the New Testament and are now members of the household of God. They have been adopted into the divine family. Jesus made it possible for them to become members of the church. The church that Paul describes is built on the foundation of the teaching of the apostles and prophets. They did it by laying the foundation in what they taught about the person and work of Jesus.

Jesus is the cornerstone on which the church is built on. The church’s foundation is built on the solid truth about Jesus being anointed by God and being His unique Son. The apostles and prophets themselves are not the true foundation of the church but first taught the truth concerning Christ and His church. It is important to understand that the apostles and prophets laid the foundation of truth about Jesus so no one can come and add something new to the existing Bible teachings about Jesus. There will be false teachers claiming new revelation of the Bible but will be false teachers who are trying to trick you. For more information about false teachers read the devotional: “Believers Beware: False Prophets and Teachers are in the World”.

Jesus is the cornerstone that holds the church together. If we know how a cornerstone works, we can better understand how Jesus is the cornerstone that is there to keep the church supported and going. He is the main reason it is still standing. If He is removed from its structure, then the church will collapse. Without a cornerstone, a structure will not be stable and the same goes for the church – it needs Him to remain established and solid.

Prayer for the day:

Dear heavenly God,

Your Son is our cornerstone. He is the one who holds the church together. Without Him, it will not remain standing anymore. Please help us to keep Your teachings as the apostles and prophets taught and not to listen to false prophets and teachers who are in the world. Help us to know who they are and listen to the Bible. It is true and can be trusted. It is Your Holy Word. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
