Where are You, God?

“Remember that I commanded you to be strong and brave. Don’t be afraid, because the Lord your God will be with you everywhere you go.” – Joshua 1:9
I have asked myself before, where are you, God? I have felt alone many times in my life. People have abandoned me and hated me. Looking back at the times when I felt alone and that God had abandoned me too, He did not. I do not know for sure why I felt so alone and felt that God had abandoned. I felt this especially when people I was closest to had in fact abandoned me when I needed them the most. God is different than people. He promises to never abandon His people.
The life of Job is comforting since he also experienced a deep sense of abandonment by God during his intense suffering (Job 19:6-7). However, Job maintained his faith, and he never cursed God. Nevertheless, he struggled to understand why God was silent and questioned where God was and why he was being afflicted with pain.
Like Job, I have felt abandoned by God and wondered, “where are you, God?” I also wondered why God was being silent and why I had to suffer the kinds of painful things I was going through. God may be silent in our sufferings and pain, but He promises never to leave His people. When He is silent, it is important for a person to seek Him (Jeremiah 29:13). To seek God involves prayer, since there is power in prayer, and it is vital in staying in communication with God.
When we feel alone or that God has abandoned us, here are some more Bible passages to look to for reassurance that God will never leave His people despite when we feel that He is distant.
“You will search for me. And when you search for me with all your heart, you will find me!” – Jeremiah 29:13
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted, and he saves those whose spirits have been crushed.” – Psalm 34:18
Prayer for the day:
Dear heavenly father,
Sometimes, we do question or wonder, where are You, God. Some of us feel completely abandoned by You. But, according to Your Word in the Bible, You promise never to leave or forsake Your people. That is very comforting to know since being alone feels hurtful. Thank you for being a faithful God that makes promises to be there if we seek You. All honor and glory belong to You! In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!
