What will Heaven be Like?

No one really knows what heaven is like. But there is information said about heaven in the Bible that gives us a glimpse of what it is like.

Jesus told one of the criminals who was being crucified next to Him that he would be with Him in “paradise” after they die (Luke 23:43). If Jesus described heaven as “paradise” then it will be a great place. The Merriam-Webster dictionary describes the meaning of paradise as “a very beautiful, pleasant, or peaceful place that seems to be perfect.”[1]

Heaven will be perfect because God says in Revelation 21:4 that in heaven, “He will wipe away every tear from our eyes, and there will be no more death, sadness, crying, or pain, because all the old ways are gone.” Heaven will also be very beautiful. We get a glimpse of heaven in Revelation 4:3-6 when the apostle John saw heaven. He describes heaven this way,

“The One who sat on the throne looked like precious stones, like jasper and carnelian. All around the throne was a rainbow the color of an emerald. Around the throne there were twenty-four other thrones with twenty-four elders sitting on them. They were dressed in white and had golden crowns on their heads. Lightning flashes and noises and thunder came from the throne. Before the throne seven lamps were burning, which are the seven spirits of God. Also, before the throne there was something that looked like a sea of glass, clear like crystal.”

Jesus is preparing a place for us in heaven right now. Jesus told His disciples in John 14:1-2 not to let their hearts be troubled because they can trust in God and in Him. He reminded them that there are many rooms in the Father’s house, and He would not have told them if it was not true. He is going to prepare a place for them in heaven.

We will also be worshipping God in heaven forever. There are glimpses of what it will be like to worship God in Revelation 4:9-11,

“These living creatures give glory, honor, and thanks to the One who sits on the throne, who lives forever and ever. Then the twenty-four elders bow down before the One who sits on the throne, and they worship him who lives forever and ever. They put their crowns down before the throne and say:
‘You are worthy, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honor and power,
because you made all things.
    Everything existed and was made,
    because you wanted it.’”

What a wonderful reminder of heaven and what it will be like. We too will be able to worship God in heaven forever and ever, Amen!

Prayer of the day:

Dear heavenly Father,

Thank you for showing us a glimpse of heaven. It will be a great place to spend eternity with You. We are excited for the chance to go and worship You. We are glad there will be no more pain, suffering, evil, and hate in heaven. Right now, Jesus is in heaven preparing a place for us. Please help us stay focused on things above so we won’t get sidetracked and lose our focus on heaven. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!
