What Part Do You Play?
“Together you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of that body.” – 1 Corinthians 12:27
Did you know that every Christian that is part of the church has a role to play in the body of Christ? He is the head of it and His people are supposed to look out for it. Being a part of Christ’s body, believers form His body and work together similar to how the human body works. Everyone plays a part, and all are needed to help it function. We work together under Christ as the head for the church's health and mission, emphasizing unity and diversity.
Look at what 1 Corinthians 12:15 says about the human body, “the foot might say, ‘Because I am not a hand, I am not part of the body.’ But saying this would not stop the foot from being a part of the body.” How about if the ear says this, “’Because I am not an eye, I am not part of the body.’ But saying this would not stop the ear from being a part of the body (1 Corinthians 12:16).”
Each one of us play an important part of the church’s function. No one should say that their role is unimportant, that it does not matter, or that someone else’s role is better. Everything we do matters to God. He equips each believer with a different gift (1 Corinthians 12:4). We cannot have these gifts without help from the Holy Spirit since the Spirit distributes them (1 Corinthians 12:4-7). Why? So no one can brag about their own ability to do the things that God has called and equipped them to do. Believers should not be jealous of each other’s spiritual gifts but use what God has given them to bring glory to Him and to His church.
What part do you play in the body of Christ? In Romans 12:4–8, it says that all parts have different uses, and all have different gifts, each of which came because of the grace God gave us. “Therefore, anyone who has the gift of serving should serve. Anyone who has the gift of teaching should teach. Whoever has the gift of encouraging others should encourage. Whoever has the gift of giving to others should give freely. Anyone who has the gift of being a leader should try hard when he leads. Whoever has the gift of showing mercy to others should do so with joy.”
Prayer for the day:
Dear heavenly Father,
You are the giver of the gifts that You equip us with. Please help us to use the gifts to serve the body of Christ which includes the Church. We want to use what You have given us to serve others and use it to bring You glory. We understand that each one of us plays an important part in the Church’s body and want to use our gifts well. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!
