God Gives Grace to the Humble

God Gives Grace to the Humble

“But God gives us even more grace, as the Scripture says, 'God is against the proud, but he gives grace to the humble.'" - James 4:6, NCV

God does not like the proud. Pride can make us feel like we know more than God does. It can affect our relationship with Him, or we might even turn against Him. It happened to Satan in Revelation 12:7-12 when he was so full of pride that he thought he had the power to overtake God’s throne in heaven. God defeated him, casting him down to earth, and lost his place in heaven.

God also hates pride because it is an evil trait that comes from Satan and not from Him. We need to be careful because pride can easily sneak into our hearts and minds. There might be times when we are wrong about something in front of others that makes us feel dumb. The fear of feeling dumb can trigger pride in us. Pride is a feeling we will all experience because of our sinful nature.

The good news is God promises to give grace to us when we humbly go to Him in prayer and admit when we are prideful. He will forgive us if we are truly sorry like He did for the Israelites in 2 Chronicles 7:14,

“Then if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves, if they will pray and seek me and stop their evil ways, I will hear them from heaven. I will forgive their sin, and I will heal their land.”

But the proud who refuse to repent and turn to God will be punished. In Jeremiah 50:31-32, look what happened to the proud people in Babylon,

“Babylon, you are too proud, and I am against you,” says the Lord God All-Powerful. “The time has come for you to be punished.

“Proud Babylon will stumble and fall, and no one will help her get up. I will start a fire in her towns, and it will burn up everything around her.”

It is not too late to repent and turn to God so He will show you His grace and mercy.

Prayer of the day:

Dear heavenly Father,

Thank you, for Your mercy and grace. In James 4:6, it says that if we are humble, you will give us grace and are against the proud. Please continue to help us turn away from pride and remain humble. We pray for others who struggle with pride and hope they will turn to You so they can experience Your grace. We pray for You to be with us and give us courage to stand firm on the truth of the Gospel. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!
