The Truth will Set You Free

The Truth will Set You Free
“Do not lie to each other. You have left your old sinful life and the things you did before. You have begun to live the new life, in which you are being made new and are becoming like the One who made you. This new life brings you the true knowledge of God.” - Colossians 3:9-10

When we start to tell “little white lies”, we tend to believe there is nothing wrong with it because it is not hurting anyone. But it is really hurting us the most. Lying is a sin as stated in the Ninth Commandment of the Bible (Deuteronomy 5:2). At first, little white lies seem innocent, however they can lead to bigger ones. At that point, we cannot stop lying because we become so entangled in lies. If we try to stop, we cannot because the result of it will be too costly.

Lies can entangle us like an insect in a spider’s web. We are living life lying like nothing’s wrong until we get entangled in lies and cannot get out. We want to escape from the lies but cannot without negative consequences. Some of the consequences could be that people stop trusting us, hurting our loved ones, or prison time because we were caught lying under oath.

On the other hand, if we tell the truth and are honest, it sets us free. It frees us from the bondage of sin. Jesus freed us from the bondage of sin like lying and allows us to have a new life. That is important since Satan is roaming the earth telling us it is okay to lie since it is not hurting anyone, or that it is not a sin (Job 1:7). In fact, lying hurts more people than we would like to believe.

For the entangled insect in the spider’s web, it leads to its death. The same goes for us if we do not have Jesus. Without Him, our outcome will be the same, death.

Prayer of the day:

Dear heavenly Father,

It is very easy to get caught up in little white lies. At first it is easy to lie because we think it is not hurting anyone. But it will eventually hurt us more if we continue to lie over and over again. Lying is a sin that can cause us to hurt others if we do not stop. You will still judge us for the lies we tell. When we do lie, please forgive us. We are sinners in need of Your forgiveness and grace. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!
