The Power of The Holy Spirit
“I will send you the Helper from the Father; he is the Spirit of truth who comes from the Father. When he comes, he will tell about me, and you also must tell people about me, because you have been with me from the beginning.” – John 15:26-27
Jesus promised a Helper to His disciples. The promised Helper is the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit was sent by God to help them continue their testimony of Jesus. The Holy Spirit is an active presence of God that empowers believers to live for Christ, to help them understand scripture, and overcome sin (Acts 1:8, 2 Timothy 1:7). He also serves to help as a comforter and guide, transforming believers to be more like Jesus and providing strength to witness, serve, and walk in righteousness.
He is actively working in believers and gives them the power to be a witness for Jesus, providing them with the ability to overcome sin and to live out God's purpose. He teaches believers all things, reminds them of Jesus' words, and guides them into the truth (John 16:13, 14:26). This is important since the truth of the gospel has the power to change a person’s life. The Word of God has the power to save by transforming individuals from being spiritually dead to alive through faith in Jesus. The Spirit convicts people of sin, leading them to repentance and faith in Jesus.
With His power, believers can produce fruit like love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control—within them (Galatians 5:22-23). The fruit is a spiritual gift given by God to people who have repented of their sins and confess Jesus as their Savior (Acts 2:38). After accepting Jesus as their Savior, God’s Spirit starts working in them to change their thoughts and actions. The fruit is always working in believers until they die to help them act more like Jesus.
Prayer for the day:
Dear heavenly Father,
Let the Holy Spirit into our hearts. We need Him for many things. He is the way for us to be like our Savior, Jesus. He helps us in our life to be obedient and be a witness of Christ. Please Holy Spirit produce the fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. These traits will allow others to see You in our life. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!
