Power in Prayer

Power in Prayer
“Pray in the Spirit at all times with all kinds of prayers, asking for everything you need. To do this you must always be ready and never give up. Always pray for all God’s people.”-Ephesians 6:18

There is power in prayer. When we pray, God promises to hear our prayers. Sometimes when we pray, His answer might be yes or it might be no. Whatever the answer is, we know He is a loving parent that knows what is best for His children and does what He sees fit.

We need to remember that God is not a genie and will not obey our every wish or command. God will only give us what we pray for if it is in His will, just like He did when Jesus prayed for God to take away the pain He was about to go through. Jesus prayed this prayer to God two times, but God did not answer Jesus’ prayer. God’s allowed Jesus to suffer the painful death on the cross for the sins of all who believe (Matthew 26:39). Jesus fulfilled God’s plan for salvation.

Prayer also changes us and helps us stay connected to God. We can turn to Him for what we need instead of ourselves. Prayer involves humility. When we pray, it takes a lot of humility to ask for help even when it comes to asking God for something. God is willing to give what we ask for if we really need it (Jeremiah 29:12). There is power in prayer because when a believing person prays, God will hear and answer them (Mark 11:24).

God commands us to pray for people who are sick (James 5:16). God also promises to keep us from giving into temptation when we go to Him in prayer (Matthew 26:41). We have no power to do things on our own. That is why we must rely on God for what we need. Prayer is a way to help us stay in communication with Him. As His children we will always need Him so we should never stop praying.

Prayer of the day:

Dear heavenly Father,

We humbly come to You in prayer. According to the Bible there is power in prayer. We have learned that You promise to hear our prayers and answer them as You see fit. If Your answer is no, then help us to be content with the answer like Jesus was. Please help us in the times when we are tempted, when we are sick, or when we are hurting. You are our loving Father that knows best. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!
