One Sure Thing

One Sure Thing
“For His own sake, the Lord won’t leave His people. Instead, He was pleased to make you His own people.” - 1 Samuel 12:22

One of the most important things to know as a Christian is when we are God’s people, nothing can separate us from His love. We cannot be separated from Him because He picked us to be His people before He created the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:4). That is very comforting to know for those who struggle with loneliness or have ever felt abandoned by someone they loved, cared about or looked up to.

God never intended us to find total comfort and happiness in each other or in things but only in Him and Jesus alone. On the other hand, God does provide people with support when we struggle with something (Galatians 6:2). It is when we start listening to people over God, making them an idol or doing what God disapproves of that can be dangerous for a believer. God wants Him to be the only sure thing we count on because certain people can lead us to sin (1 Corinthians 15:33).

Here are some other Bible verses to turn to for more comfort of God’s promise not to leave us:

“Let us, then, feel very sure that we can come before God’s throne where there is grace. There we can receive mercy and grace to help us when we need it.” - Hebrews 4:16

“No one will be able to defeat you all your life. Just as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you or forget you.” - Joshua 1:5

Hebrews 13:6 says, “So, we can be sure when we say, 'I will not be afraid, because the Lord is my helper. People can’t do anything to me.'” (quoting Psalm 118:6)

Prayer of the day:

Dear heavenly Father,

The one sure thing we know is that You will never leave us. Because of Your faithfulness, we do not have to feel alone or abandoned. We can trust You to never leave us because You picked us to be Your people. Thank you for choosing us even though we do not deserve it. It is only by Your grace and love that we are saved. All the glory and honor belong to You. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!
