Love Covers a Multitude of Sins

“Most importantly, love each other deeply, because love will cause people to forgive each other for many sins.” – 1 Peter 4:8
I never knew that I could learn a lot biblically from a movie, especially from the popular Christmas movie, “Dr. Seuss' The Grinch”. The version I watched was the cartoon movie from Illumination. The Grinch got a bad rap because he stole Christmas from the whole town of Whoville. He did it to try to prove his point that the community of Whoville only celebrated Christmas because they solely cared about material things like presents, food, and decorations. After he stole everything from the town, the Whoville town continued to celebrate Christmas with love and community, proving that the true spirit of Christmas lies within them and not in material possessions.
The experience ultimately transformed the Grinch, as his heart grew three sizes, and he returned everything he had stolen. Despite the Grinch’s wrongdoing and evil actions, there was one girl in the movie whose kindness helped change the Grinch’s heart. She was Cindy Lou Who. Her and her family invited the Grinch to dinner at their house even after all of the wicked things he did. This act of love covered the multitude of his sins and changed his heart.
The movie showed me that any wicked person can be changed. Sometimes, it takes an action of love on our part like forgiving someone who had hurt us and trying to understand why they did it while still trying to show compassion to the person because no one really knows what that person has gone through. God changed many people in the Bible. One popular person was Paul. He used to persecute Christians (Acts 9:1-2). Paul's life took a dramatic turn on the road to Damascus when he encountered the resurrected Jesus (Acts 9:3-6). God showed Paul love by changing his heart and allowed him to be a follower of Christ.
Christ’s actions on the cross and His obedience covers the multitude of our sins. Because of Him, Christians can be with God forever in heaven with Him.
Prayer for the day:
Dear heavenly Father,
Thank you for sending Jesus to die for our sins and because of Him we can be with You forever. His loving actions covers the multitude of our sins. Love has the power to change us, but it can also change others with the love that we show them. Please help us to be obedient so our actions of love can demonstrate Your love. Help it be a way You can use to help change the people we may hurt or the people who have hurt us. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!
