It is Not Bad to be Good

“Our people must learn to use their lives for doing good deeds to provide what is necessary so that their lives will not be useless.” -Titus 3:14

Living in a world full of sinful people makes it difficult for God’s people to always want to do “good” and the right thing. We are tempted to do what others do and what God considers “bad” just to be accepted. The Bible tells us to be different and to do good because of God’s grace. God picked us to be His people and as a result, should make us want to do good (Ephesians 1:4, John 15:16).

When we do good as God asks, it shows we are grateful for what He has done. It also shows our faith is real because our faith leads to salvation, salvation results in the “good” works we do, and our work will be rewarded by God (Ephesians 2:10). We should not get tired and stop doing good either because the things we do reflect the goodness of God and will cause others to praise Him (2 Timothy 2:15).

The Scriptures tell us to do good to everyone even our enemies (Matthew 5:44-45). We do this act of goodness because God did the same for us. When we were God’s enemies, He showed His goodness by saving us from eternal punishment through the death of His Son (Romans 5:10). That is the main reason why we want to do good. Thus, being good is not such a bad thing.

Prayer of the day:

Dear heavenly Father,

Help us to want to do good. At times it is difficult because we are sinful people that want to please people and fear them more. When we do good, it shows we are grateful for what You have done. It is You that saved us from death and not ourselves. Please help us to want to continue to do good so we can show others Your goodness. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
