Importance of Seeking God

Importance of Seeking God
“Seek first God’s kingdom and what God wants. Then all your other needs will be met as well.” – Matthew 6:33

How many times a day or during your busy week do you seek God? Seeking Him can include prayer, reading the Bible or talking to Him either out loud or silently. It does not seem too difficult or time consuming to do one of these things. Just think about how many times a day that we tend to text a friend, talk to a family member or read the news on the internet. If we have time to do these things, then why can we not make time for God? Staying in communication with God is needed. It helps us in our daily life since God created humans to have an ongoing relationship with Him. However, that relationship with God was ruined with Adam and Eve. Their sin and disobedience caused them to be separated from God. He removed Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3:23).

We need to make God our central focus, not our secondary one. If we do not, then what happened to Adam and Eve could happen to us. It happened to King Saul. He was chosen by God to deliver the Israelites from the Philistines and other enemies. But, due to his poor decisions and disobedience towards God, it led to God rejecting him as king which ultimately led to his tragic end (1 Samuel 15).

If we put God first, we will not suffer the pain of rejection or even being separated from God. Seeking God and prioritizing Him in all aspects of our life helps us to stay in a relationship with Him. Staying connected to God as much as possible allows us to know His will and purpose for our life. When we seek to accomplish His will, it will bring Him glory.

When Jesus was obedient and died, His actions made us right with God. Because of Him, we can have an everlasting relationship with God even if we sin. Nothing can stop us if we seek God on a daily basis and truly repent when we sin. The encouraging news is there will be a great reward for people who truly seek God (Hebrews 11:6).

Prayer for the day:

Dear heavenly Father,

There are many important reasons to seek You. We need You in our life. You help us stay focused on Your purposes and plans You have for us. Please help us to seek You since we need a relationship with You. Thank you for the gift of heaven. It is all possible because of Jesus. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!
