Heaven, a Place like No Other

Heaven, a Place like No Other
“One day in the courtyards of your Temple is better than a thousand days anywhere else. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the Temple of my God than live in the homes of the wicked.”- Psalm 84:10

We can only wonder what heaven will be like. The Bible gives us a small glimpse of this glorious place. Jesus even talks about it and that gives us comfort to know it is real. He reminds us that “in this world you will have trouble but be brave! I have defeated the world” (John 16:33). What a comforting reminder that Jesus defeated this world and provides us with the hope of heaven.

Heaven is a place where we will worship and sing praises to God and our Savior, Jesus Christ (Revelation 5:8-14). There will be no more death, sadness, crying, or pain (Revelation 21:4). It is a place that Jesus referred to as “paradise” (Luke 23:43). Everyone has their own idea of what paradise is like for them, but the Bible describes how the apostle John saw heaven in Revelation 22:1-2:

“Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life. It was shining like crystal and was flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the street of the city. The tree of life was on each side of the river. It produces fruit twelve times a year, once each month. The leaves of the tree are for the healing of all the nations.”

The apostle John also describes heaven in Revelation 21:21-25:

“The twelve gates were twelve pearls; each gate having been made from a single pearl. And the street of the city was made of pure gold as clear as glass. I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the city’s temple. The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, because the glory of God is its light, and the Lamb is the city’s lamp. By its light the people of the world will walk, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it. The city’s gates will never be shut on any day, because there is no night there.”

Heaven sounds wonderful and will be worth waiting for, especially when we have to suffer for a short time on earth since we will experience eternal peace and comfort in paradise with God forever.

Prayer of the day:

Dear heavenly Father,

What a place heaven will be. We only get a small glimpse of heaven in the Bible. Please continue to provide us with peace and comfort knowing heaven is real and it is a place with no more pain and suffering, but a place that we can be with You, to worship our King. In Jesus name we pray, Amen!
