God’s Golden Rule

“Do to others what you want them to do to you. This is the meaning of the law of Moses and the teaching of the prophets.”- Matthew 7:12

When I was young my mom taught me how I should treat others. She told me that I should treat others the same way I want them to treat me. As I got older and studied the Bible, I began to realize what my mom said was true and today still live by that rule.

I try to treat others the way I want to be treated because to treat others like that reflects how God treats us. God is the real reason why we need to live by this rule. We must imitate God in showing kindness to others like He does. He shows kindness to everyone, even to those who hate Him.

Matthew 5:45 says, “If you do this, you will be true children of your Father in heaven. He causes the sun to rise on good people and on evil people, and He sends rain to those who do right and to those who do wrong.”

Being kind to others is not easy but can be done. It is done by help from the Holy Spirit, by being humble and confessing it is hard to treat people kindly who are mean, who have different views on things than we do, or who we think do not need to be treated with respect. But with time, humility, and with God, it is possible, so try it today.

Prayer of the day:

Dear heavenly Father,

We pray for Your help to live by Your golden rule. It is hard to do. We need Your help to make it possible so we can treat others like You command. Give us the ability to be like You and to show kindness and respect to everyone. Help us to do it to people who we do not agree with, who we do not get along with, and who are mean. With You all things are possible. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!
