God, Our Ultimate Source of Comfort

God, Our Ultimate Source of Comfort
“Even if I walk through a very dark valley, I will not be afraid, because You are with me. Your rod and Your shepherd’s staff comfort me.”- Psalm 23:4

When a Christian feels alone, scared, or unloved they have a heavenly Father to turn to for comfort. God should be a Christian’s first and ultimate source of comfort. He is because people are broken and are sinful. The Bible says “everyone has sinned and fallen short of God’s glorious standard (Romans 3:23). As a result, people do not have the same ability to provide comfort for others as God does. People are mean, get jealous, and have a lot of hate in their hearts. It is also very difficult for people to show love and provide comfort for others when they themselves are going through trials.

God is unlike people because He never changes and remains the same no matter what (Malachi 3:6, Hebrews 13:8). He provides comfort differently than the world because the world is constantly changing and full of evil people. God can comfort people because He understands what they are going through because “He was tempted in every way that we are, but He did not sin (Hebrews 4:15).”

Here are some other Bible verses to turn to for comfort:

“They are blessed who grieve for God will comfort them.”-Matthew 5:4

“The LORD himself will go before you. He will be with you; He will not leave you or forget you. Don’t be afraid and don’t worry.”- Deuteronomy 31:8

“God will strengthen you with His own great power so that you will not give up when troubles come, but you will be patient.”- Colossians 1:11

Prayer of the day:

Dear heavenly Father,

We are sinners and our hearts always change but You remain the same. You are the same today, yesterday, and tomorrow and that is why we can turn to You for comfort. You are our ultimate source of comfort, and You promise to never leave or forsake us. That is the reason why You are worthy to be praised because You are very merciful. Thank you for letting us find comfort in You. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!
