God is Sovereign Over Everything

God is Sovereign Over Everything

“The Lord does what He pleases, in heaven and on earth,
in the seas and the deep oceans.” - Psalm 135:6

God created everything in the universe from the sky to the ocean, the day to the night, and everything on the earth including birds, the sea animals, and humans (Genesis 1:1-2:25). God oversees everything He created, He does what He wants, and when He wants. That is why He is sovereign. Sovereign means “one that exercises supreme authority.” He is like a parent who knows what is best for their children. Have you ever heard your parent say, “because I said so” or “I know what is best?” God is similar in that way; He knows what is best for His children.

The Bible is full of examples of God’s supreme power. In Revelation 12:7-12, we see how powerful God is when He overpowered Satan and Satan’s fallen angels when they tried to overtake heaven and God’s throne. God and His angels casted Satan and the demons out of heaven to the earth. Not even Satan could defeat God.

We also see God’s sovereignty over the apostle Paul’s life. God allowed Paul to suffer some type of physical problem. God let Paul go through this painful physical problem to keep him humble. He told Paul that His power is made perfect in his weakness. He knew what was best for Paul (2 Corinthians 12:7-10).

God sovereignty does not stop there, He saved the Israelites from their bondage in Egypt (Exodus 6:6). He did it by giving Moses the power to divide the Red Sea to help the Israelites escape from the Egyptians (Exodus 14:6).

The best part of God’s sovereignty is His plan to save humanity from eternal punishment. All we must do is repent and believe Jesus died for our sins. It is that easy, we do not have to do anything but just believe. He sent His only son to suffer in our place (John 3:16). He did not have to save humanity even though we do not deserve it because we all have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory (Romans 3:23).

Prayer of the day:

Dear heavenly Father,

You are sovereign. There are many examples of Your sovereignty in the Holy Bible. You showed Your power by saving people from death. Please continue to help us see Your sovereignty because it is easy to forget. There is a lot of things in this world that put doubt in our minds. We need the Holy Spirit to help us see the truth of Your great power. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen!
