Finding Comfort in the Promise of Heaven

Finding Comfort in the Promise of Heaven
“So, I say that we have courage. We really want to be away from this body and be at home with the Lord.”- 2 Corinthians 5:8

When we are scared of dying, this is a comforting verse to turn to as a reminder of what will happen when a Christian dies. Death is inevitable and we will all experience it one day. Christians can find comfort to know that when they die, their souls will leave their bodies and will immediately be in the presence of the Lord. This verse is reassurance from Paul that what he really longs for is the day he will be with the Lord in heaven.

We can also look to Jesus for comfort when He reminds us that at this very moment, He is preparing a place in heaven for His people. He tells His disciples in John 14:1-3, “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust in me. There are many rooms in my Father’s house; I would not tell you this if it were not true. I am going there to prepare a place for you. After I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me so that you may be where I am." Jesus is not a deceiver so we can believe Him.

Do not be deceived into believing there are other ways to heaven. Jesus Himself reminds us that He is the only way (John 14:6). Do not let anyone fool you into believing there are other ways. Satan is good at deceiving people and will try to trick us into believing Jesus is not the only way (John 8:44).

Prayer of the day:

Dear heavenly Father,

You remind us not to be scared of dying. It is not necessary because heaven is real, and one day will be there with You. Jesus is the only way to heaven. Jesus reminds us of this truth in John 14:6, “I am the way and the truth and the life that no one comes to the Father except through me.” Help us not to get tricked into thinking that there are other ways. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!
