Do I Really Trust God?

Do I Really Trust God?
“So don’t worry, because I am with you. Don’t be afraid, because I am your God. I will make you strong and will help you; I will support you with my right hand that saves you.” - Isaiah 41:10

Do I really trust God? That is a question I ask myself a lot. Even after being a Christian for a long time, I still struggle at times to trust God. The Bible is full of Scripture that commands me to trust Him, then why do I struggle with trusting Him? He has never given me a reason not to trust Him unlike people have done.

We all struggle to trust God from time to time. We are not alone in our struggle. Even Eve who spent time with God in the Garden of Eden and walked with Him failed to trust Him. She failed and doubted God when Satan tricked her into eating the fruit from the tree God told her not to (Genesis 3:13). It is easy to doubt Him because we are sinners or if we have never had to trust Him before. It is easier in good times. On the other hand, when we lose a job, lose a loved one, or get sick with cancer, it is more difficult to believe God will be there.

Some people believe when “bad” things happen, God is displeased with them or believe God only gives “good” things to people He loves. That is not the case according to the Bible. John 16:33 says, “in this world you will have trouble.” Troubles will happen because the world is full of sinful people. During the times of trouble, God promises us peace in Jesus. We find peace in Jesus by knowing He defeated the world through His death. We also can receive peace with help from the Holy Spirit.

Here are some other Bible passages to help when you struggle to trust God:

“Trust the Lord with all your heart, and don’t depend on your own understanding. Remember the Lord in all you do, and he will give you success.” - Proverbs 3:5-6

“Depend on the Lord in whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.” - Proverbs 16:3

"'I say this because I know what I am planning for you,' says the Lord. 'I have good plans for you, not plans to hurt you. I will give you hope and a good future.'" - Jeremiah 29:11

Prayer of the day:

Heavenly Father,

We still struggle to trust You. It is difficult to when life seems like it is falling apart. We learned from Jesus to find peace in You when we doubt You and struggle to believe You won’t abandon us during difficult times. We pray that You help us to have peace and to trust You more every day. You never change; therefore, we can believe what You promise. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!
