Believers are Not Alone, God Provides a Helper

John 14:26 (NCV)

“But the Helper will teach you everything and will cause you to remember all that I told you. This Helper is the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my name.”

Before Jesus was taken away to be crucified, He reassured His disciples that they will never be alone because God was sending them a Helper. The “Helper” Jesus was referring to is the Holy Spirit. Just like the disciples, God does not leave us alone and promises to provide a Helper for us. Jesus knew the importance of Him leaving so the Holy Spirit could come and be with us. We need the Holy Spirit because we cannot be holy, righteous or have true understanding of the scriptures on our own (Titus 3:3-7). For that reason, He (the Holy Spirit) will guide, teach, provide spiritual gifts, and empower us to live a life that pleases God. He will also intercede on our behalf when we pray. The Holy Spirit tells us how and what to pray for in a way God wants, so He will hear and answer our prayers. With the help from the Holy Spirit within us, God's promise of the New Covenant in Jeremiah 31:33-34 would also be fulfilled:

“This is the agreement I will make with the people of Israel at that time, says the LORD. I will put my teachings in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. People will no longer have to teach their neighbors and relatives to know the LORD, because all people will know me, from the least to the most important, says the LORD. I will forgive them for the wicked things they did, and I will not remember their sins anymore.”

Prayer of the day:

Dear heavenly Father,

Thank you for Your kindness and love. It means a lot to us that You would provide a helper for us. We cannot have true understanding of the Bible or live accordingly to Your will without the Holy Spirit. Please help us not to ignore the Holy Spirit, so we can live and do what pleases You. It is important for others to know about You and how You are changing our hearts and minds. In Jesus’ name we pray Amen!
