Being Transformed into the Image of Christ

Being Transformed into the Image of Christ
“You have begun to live the new life, in which you are being made new and are becoming like the One who made you. This new life brings you the true knowledge of God.” – Colossians 3:10

We are sinners. Being a sinner means that we do things like disobey God’s laws. Have you ever broken one of God’s Ten Commandments? God’s first commandment is “You shall have no other gods before me” (Exodus 20:3). This is known as making other things or people an idol. We tend to put them first in our life and then God. It could mean instead of going to church, someone goes to a football game. If we do, then it could mean that we are making football an idol.

How about God’s fifth commandment to honor your father and your mother? (Exodus 20:12) Do we honor our parents like we should? Do we listen to or care for them? If not, we are dishonoring them, and that is a sin unless they are telling us to do something against God’s laws. We can honor them when we are older by caring for them as they age. This is what God wants His people to do. If we struggle to do it, there is hope. Our hope comes from God. The good news is that God helps us to be different.

God is constantly changing us once we accept Jesus as our Savior. The constant change in our life is known as sanctification. Through this process, God is making us to be more and more like Christ. He is our example to follow. How He acts is the way we need to act. What He taught in the Scriptures is what we should do in our life. It is a Christian’s goal to change old ways of thinking and to act in a new way. This is a sign that shows that we are being transformed into the image of our Savior Jesus Christ.

Prayer of the day:

Dear heavenly Father,

Thank you for helping us to change into the image of Your Son. We need constant changing to prepare us for heaven but also to help others see Christ in us. All this is done to bring You glory and honor. Help us to be like Jesus so others will know that we are Your disciples. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!
