A New Life in Christ

A New Life in Christ
“If anyone belongs to Christ, there is a new creation. The old things have gone; everything is made new!”- 2 Corinthians 5:17

God gives us a new life once we accept Jesus as our savior, repent of our sins, and are baptized. Our new life that God gives us by our faith in Jesus shows how merciful God is (Hebrews 8:12). He forgets our sins that we have committed against Him and promises to forgive us if we are sorry for what we have done (2 Chronicles 7:14, Ephesians 2:8). Our new life involves God changing our old heart and replacing it with a new heart (Ezekiel 36:25-28). In our new life, God gives us the power to listen and obey His laws (Ezekiel 36:27).

Before this new life, we were considered a lost person with no hope. Our only hope was death, eternal punishment and being slaves to sin. We were once lost but now are found and made a new creation in Christ. Jesus is a shepherd who looks for lost people to save. When we were lost, we were doing sinful things that God hates (Luke 15:1-10). Without Jesus, we cannot be forgiven of our sins or be made right with God (Romans 3:22).

We cannot have a new life without God because we were born sinners and inherited our sinful nature from Adam (Jeremiah 17:9, Romans 5:12). It is only by God’s grace that we have this new life, so we do not have to suffer eternal punishment that we have earned by sinning (Romans 3:23). Our new life is a gift from God and should be used to serve Him and to bring Him glory (Ephesians 2:8).

Prayer of the day:

Dear heavenly Father,

You give us a new life. Our new life involves a new heart that wants to obey Your commands and laws instead of doing what our sinful self wants. Give us the courage to tell others about our new life so they will know how great You are and that you are better than anything else. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!
