A Christian’s Call to Be Holy

A Christian’s Call to Be Holy

We are called to be holy since God chose us to be His people (Ephesians 1:4). Colossians 3:1-4 tells us the importance of being holy,

“Since you were raised from the dead with Christ, aim at what is in heaven, where Christ is sitting at the right hand of God. Think only about the things in heaven, not the things on earth. Your old sinful self has died, and your new life is kept with Christ in God. Christ is your life, and when he comes again, you will share in his glory.” – Colossians 3:1-4

It is important as God’s people to try to remove all evil things out of our lives including sexual sin, evil thoughts that can control us, and wanting things of the world like money and fame. Doing these things is really serving a false god (Colossians 3:5). Try to do everything that glorifies our Father, who is holy. It is God’s will for us (1 Thessalonians 4:3). Christ became human to do His Father’s will (John 3:16). He was obedient unto death, acted holy by showing love to His enemies, felt compassion, and forgave people who hurt Him (Luke 23:34, Matthew 9:36). We must do the same.

We cannot be perfectly holy in this life, but we can strive to be until we are called to our heavenly home or until Jesus returns (1Thessalonians 3:13). Striving to be holy is a process known as sanctification. It is a life-long process. It is possible to have the same traits as Jesus did in this life. It is only possible with help from the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit gives us the power to do what God wants us to do like resist sin, forgive, be kind, and humble, and to remember what Jesus taught from the Bible (John 14:16-17).

Prayer of the day:

Dear heavenly Father,

You are holy and perfect, unlike us. You are very merciful by allowing us to be in Your presence even though we are sinners. It is by Jesus’ death that we can be with You in heaven. Help us on earth to be holy because acting like Jesus can help others see You in us. This can cause others to praise You. Please help us to act holy until we are called home or until Jesus returns. In His wonderful name we pray, Amen!
